CLT OVERVIEW

DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

CENTER FOR LEARNING AND TEACHING

The DT Based curriculum – R2019 consists of Theory, Theory cum practical and Practical courses, with a total credit of 169 to be earned for the award of degree.  The Mechanical Engineering Program consists of Basic Science courses for 24 credits, Humanities and Management courses for 5 credits, Engineering Sciences courses for 20 credits, Program core for 51 credits, Program Elective and Open Elective courses for 30 credits, DT CFC / IIPC courses for 24 credits and DT SCD courses for 15 Credits. The mandatory courses are structured to impart the students with skills and knowledge required for the current industry requirements like soft skills, internships, latest trends in technology, capstone etc. The entire curriculum was structured keeping in mind the AICTE guidelines and the industry expectations from the graduates. The design thinking aspect was included in every course to make the students experience the five stages and imbibe the methodology and its solution-based approach.

Various number of student development activities are constantly being practiced in each classrooms, enforced by our Center of Learning and Teaching.

TEACHING PEDAGOGIES

BEST PRACTICES

Integration of technology into education has enhanced the teaching/learning process to a higher level. The effective use of ICT in pedagogy has helped in grabbing the attention of the student throughout the session. Teaching-learning through various best practices such as Flipped Classroom, Role Play, Case Study, Group Discussion, Small Group Learning, Problem Based Learning, Project Based Learning etc., has elevated the level of it.

  • Class room delivery structure

    • Recap: Students selected based on the discussion in collaborative meeting will give a recap of the topics taught in the previous class.
    • Lecture: Ten to fifteen minutes have a lecture on a specific topic using Chalk and talk or ICT or video lecturing etc
    • Activity: Carry out any non-technical activity or technical activity that will help to bring back the attention of the students who have already lost it.
    • Quiz: When a regular immediate mastery test is included in the last few minutes of the period, learners retain almost twice as much material, both factual and conceptual.
    • Summary: You can call out any student of your class to summarize the contents that were taught in the last 15 minutes of your class
    • Worksheets: Students can be made to complete or solve the worksheets that are provided by the faculty for their concerned subject

  • Teaching, Learning and Evaluation schedules

    The following Teaching, Learning and Evaluation schedules are followed in the Department:

    • An Academic Calendar is prepared before the start of the semester taking into consideration the Academic Calendar of the affiliating University.
    • The Academic Calendar consists of the curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to be carried out during the semester.
    • The teacher in-charge prepares the teaching plan of the concerned subject in the form of a course file.
    • Teaching and evaluation plans are finalized on the basis of the instructions issued by the board of studies.
  • Teaching Learning-Process

    • The interactive question-answer sessions/quizzes are arranged by the teachers. Students are encouraged to ask more and more questions in the class.
    • The Institute has made a transition from input based education to outcome based education.
    • The Institute follows the Bloom’s Taxonomy and emphasis is laid on action learning and project based learning.
    • The Course objectives and outcomes are designed on the basis of Bloom’s Taxonomy.
    • In order to develop the collaborative learning, the students are given group assignments, minor/major projects and group presentations. In addition to this, industrial training/visits for the students are also arranged.
    •  To promote independent learning, the students are given assignments and tutorial sheets. Peer-to-peer learning and project based learning are encouraged as well.
    •  SNS Courseware have lesson plan, syllabus, materials and question bank for all the subjects it can be updated frequently
  • Technologies and Academic Facilities

    In order to promote effective knowledge delivery among the students, the following technologies and academic facilities are provided to the students and teachers:

    • The Institute subscribes to a large number of reputed online and print journals in various disciplines. In addition to this the Institute has got a well-stocked library. Galileo Centre for Academic Excellence and Digital Library is also established along with departmental libraries in each department.
    • The virtual labs are also being used by the students and faculty.
    • The faculty members are using NPTEL and MOOCs also.
    • The Institute has got smart class rooms equipped with smart boards and multimedia projectors.
  • Advanced Learning of Knowledge and Skills

    The institute promotes advanced learning of knowledge and skills among the students through the following:

    • The expert lectures/invited talks are arranged by top academicians as well industry experts from time to time.
    • The national/international conferences/seminars/workshops are organized.
    • The faculty and students are encouraged to participate in conferences/seminars in other Institutes.
  • Academic, Personal and Psycho-social Guidance

    The institute provides following academic personal and psycho-social guidance to the students:

    • Students are counseled for various psychological and emotional stressors and taught coping skills. Students are counseled individually as well as in groups.
    • Faculty mentors are appointed for major projects of the students.
    • There is a provision in the curriculum about the appointment of Group Advisors.
    • Faculty mentors counsels the students about career opportunities and higher education.
    • Students are informed from time to time about career options in diverse fields such as defence services, public sector undertaking job options, corporate openings etc.
  • Innovative Teaching Approaches and Methods

    In order to strengthen the teaching-learning process, the institute follows the following teaching approaches and methods:

    • The faculty members make use of Bloom’s Taxonomy in teaching and promote action based learning and project based learning.
    • The various online resources such as MOOCs and virtual labs are being used.
    • The case study/role play/ Group discussions/quizzes/crossword puzzles and various other action learning techniques are used by the faculty.
    • The subject quizzes are being used.
    • The latest technological innovations are discussed in the classes.
  • Monitoring the Quality of Teaching Learning

    The institute undertakes the following steps to monitor the quality of teaching learning:

    • The home assignments are given to the students.
    • The tutorial sheets are given to the students.
    • The subject quizzes are held in the classes.
    • Minor and major projects are given to the students.
    • Group presentations are made by the students.
    • The feedback is taken from the students during mid and at the end of every semester.

4 CAREER TRACKS

DESIGN THINKING

Design thinking is a novel approach of solving engineering and social problem from the customer perspective. All most all global corporate gaints are pioneering in design thinking and internationally recognized universities and institutions are also deploying design thinking in their curriculum. We are 1st  institutions in India who has successfully implemented design thinking at our curriculum level and have also trained faculties and students in the process. Design thinking makes the students more inclined to the customer perspective to identify their need and employ technology to provide it.

The world as we know is is moving to greater heights with seven fields comprising Agriculture and Food Technology, Healthcare and Biomedical, Power & Energy, Aerospace and Defence, Automobile, Smart city and Fintech, being the fore runners in the world economy. There are five revolutionary technologies of Augmented Reality & Virtual Realty, Internet of Things, Data Analytics, Robotics and Automation and 3D Printing. The combination of the fields and the influencing technologies are framed as the 7+5 thrust areas. The institution focuses and works in these seven fields through the five technologies. BUSINESS MODEL CANVAS (BMC)

As a part of start-up culture, Aspiring Entrepreneurs should aware about Business Model Canvas (BMC) while pitching the startup idea to investors.  Business Model Canvas (BMC) should be short, simple and compelling.

For that our curriculum is implemented with Design thinking. So every student exposure to different canvas model for business.

SNS Courseware

Every course teacher uploads his/her lesson plan, lecture notes, assignments, Puzzles, Question banks with answer keys, multiple-choice questions (MCQs), etc in the college web portal www.snscourseware.org which are accessible by the students anywhere at any time. All the contents shared in the classroom are also uploaded on the website for students’ reference. Online learning holds the promise of broadening access to higher education to more individuals, while also lowering costs for students

Faculty Development

All the faculties are having culture to constantly enrich their knowledge by attending faculty development courses and Short term courses organised under ATAL , TEQUIP, QIP, Guest Lectures, seminars, conference and much more programs in various International universities, IITs, NITs, IIITs and other government institutions during their summer and winter vacation. The Emerging domains like Iot, Data Analytics, AR /VR, 3D printing, Robotics and Automation are the major topics that chosen by the faculties that can be matched with our institute thrust area. All the faculties are mandated to get NPTEL certificates for every academic year. Besides 11 faculties earned Autodesk certification program and 02 faculties get their ANSYS certificate for inhouse training to the student’s community.

STUDENT PROGRESSION

Every student right from the first year are given personal care through tailored activities with a specially assigned mentor. Talent search and personality identification of each student is done at large and they are taught, trained, challenged and guided in a systematic progression. From the first year onwards, students are encouraged and guided to be globally competent through various competition and challenging forums. The capable students are also given the opportunity to customise the courses that they learn by hand picking electives. There are also means by which the student can even choose who would teach a specific course to increase the faculty-student interaction and understanding. Through personal mentorship programme, each student is given special and individual care to help them grow and mature in academic, social and personal skills and talents. At the end of the four years, it is made sure that every student progress in systematic, customized and challenging manner in all need knowledge and skills to sets.

The student progression is monitored by keeping a record of all the activities like attendance & assessment for each course by the respective faculty. Apart from the mentoring system, the students’ progress is monitored through class tests, online quizzes, assignments, development of teaching material for specific topics, submission of journal abstracts of current status of the technology, by making them attend conferences/seminar/webinars on relevant topics. This exercise makes them involve themselves and makes them proceed beyond communication barriers, rural/ urban background and get a sense of team work. Slow and fast learners are identified and special work or coaching are given.

    • The purpose of creating the software is  to track the prisoner in the jail. Its used to avoid  prisoner escapes from jail. Reduce violence and injuries.

    • The  library management system is to handle the entire activity of our department library. The software keeps track of all the information about the books and their complete details. The system contains database where all the information will be stored safely.

    • For a large Institution it is difficult to spot the person working in the same institution. It takes long time to analyze the schedule of the individual. We need to create an application in which we are able to get the information of one person at one click.

    • To help farmers to overcome their issues related to power supply. To provide them a cost efficient methodology to reduce their expenses. To reduce the wastage of water and to conserve energy. To encourage the use of solar which would act as the most superior source in future.
  • ONLINE ATTENDANCE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
    • The  Purpose of developing attendance management system is to change the way of taking attendance. Another purpose for developing the software is to generate the report automatically. The attendance system has been built to eliminate the time and effort wasted in taking attendance in colleges.
  • PORTAL FOR FARMERS TO SELL THE PRODUCE    
    • System that provides farmers an interface to sell their produce and connect with the buyers all over India. Farmers can get a better price for their produce, no additional cost spent in marketing and delivery of goods. This will give benefits for  Farmers, Restaurant owners, Buyers , Courier Companies, Delivery Agencies, Vegetable Vendors. Better rates for the vegetables, Make the Farmers live with pride and make additional income
  • FEEDBACK MANAGEMENT SYSTEM  
    • In today’s era, the teacher-student relations in any educational institute play a critical role in the development of the student in particular and the institute in general. To determine the capabilities of students, students are being evaluated by the process of well-defined examination systems. At the same, for determining the capabilities of teachers, a feedback system is required to be kept in place. Feedback mechanism system ensures a detailed analysis of the performance of the teacher’s with respect to the various parameters
  • WARNING SYSTEM FOR DRIVERS
    • In order to ensure pedestrians safety and vehicle speed limits in area with high pedestrians density like schools, hospital & residential areas. It includes optimal warning sounds to warn the driver to reduce the speed of vehicle if he exceeds the limit for that particular area.
  • WATER QUALITY MEASURING DEVICE
    • Due to contamination of water it causes various diseases it affects human survival. for that we develop a device. This device can help you to check the purity of water and the water borne diseases will be controlled. Components: pH sensor, temperature sensor, arduino uno. Lcd. Conductivity sensor,turbidity sensor.
  • SMART STREET LIGHTS  
    • Our idea is to implement a Smart Street Lights which could probably reduce the accident that are happen in night time and it also used to reduce the power consumption.The main theme of the project that deals with the intelligent control of illumination of the streets during the off peak hours in night (from 11.30pm to 5.30am say) based on detection of movement on the road by vehicles (mostly) and pedestrians (if any)
